Hi! My name is Buford. Lil G’s been really busy helping Rainah and Dave with their wedding planning lately and hasn’t had time to post. In the mean time, I thought I would take over for a while and post some of my adventures.
About 2 weeks ago on October 4, 2009 I had a chance to go with Dave and his friends to see the Stanley Cup. I had never been to a hockey game before and didn’t really understand why everyone was so excited about a cup. Dave explained to me that the cup is awarded each year to the team that wins the NHL championship. I still didn’t quite get it but I was learning something.
I was really excited to get out, maybe a little too excited. I jumped up on the dashboard of the car on the way to Mellon Arena to get a better view. Not sure that’s an approved method for riding in the car but it sure was fun!
When we got there the line was wrapped all the way around the arena near gate 3. Some one said that the wait was going to be about 5 hours. That seemed like a long time but Dave said this was the last year for Mellon Arena and you don’t get to touch the Stanley Cup every day.
Along the way I found a bus stop sign. I asked Dave where the bus went but he wasn’t really sure. I think this might have gone to San Francisco. I thought that if the bus had come past I could have jumped on and gone to see my friend Lil G.
After about 2.5 hours we were finally getting close to being inside. That seemed like a really long time but we were having fun. There were people walking around selling sandwiches from the Italian Festival across the street. I wanted to get a meatball hoagie, since I’m a big fan of meat, but they were all out.
I had to have my own ticket to get in. Lucky for me, there was an extra one!
While we were waiting inside I came across this photo of my friends uncle Evan. My friend always told me that his uncle was famous and that I should try to contact him once I left India. I never thought I would actually come across a picture of him like this though. This was really cool! I’ll have to call my friend back in India and let her know.
After another 2.5 hours of waiting inside we were really getting close.
When we got down on the ice I decided to go take a walk. Having never really seen ice before I had no idea that it was that cold! Dave made me stay there while he took a picture.
Finally after 5 hour and 20 minutes our goal was achieved! We got to touch the cup and have our picture taken. I wanted to jump up and sit in the cup for the picture but had to settle for sitting on the table.
Hockey fans seem to be a dedicated bunch. I have a ticket to the game on October 17th. I’ll report back and let you know how that goes!
